Clippers work by squeezing the nail until it cuts. On thick or brittle nails that pressure can split or crack the nail, which is uncomfortable and takes time to grow out.

Clippers cut the nail in one squeeze. A grinder files it down gradually, so you remove a little at a time, smooth the edge as you go and can stop as soon as you get close to the quick.
It is made for dogs and cats of different sizes. The adjustable grinding head accommodates small and large pets, and the two speeds let you go gently on thin nails or step up for thicker ones.
Less than you think. Work in brief passes, check the nail often and stop once the tip no longer touches the floor when your pet stands. For nervous pets, one or two paws per session is plenty.
Go slowly and look at the nail tip as you work. On light nails the quick shows as a pink area inside the nail. On dark nails, stop when a small dark dot appears in the centre of the freshly ground tip.
If you are unsure, ask your vet or groomer to show you once.
Build up slowly: let them sniff it switched off, then switched on nearby, rewarding calm each time. Keep sessions short and positive, and stop if your pet becomes stressed. You can always finish another day.
Start on the lower 7,000 RPM setting with light pressure. If a thick nail is taking a long time, switch to 8,000 RPM and keep using brief passes so the nail does not get warm.

It's very good. It surprised me. It worked better for me when I push the nail into the cavity it has and then started moving from one side to the other and vice versa. A fine nail powder started coming out. I recommend using a mask because the nail powder comes out very fine and it's easy to inhale.
Really nice - better for those whose dog's nails are not really in bad condition but more maintenance but it's really good for an older dog who doesn't walk much
