How to size dog crate furniture (so it fits the dog and the room)
Buying crate furniture by photo alone is how you get a beautiful cabinet your dog won’t enter — or one that dominates a small room.
1. Measure the dog, not the listing title
- Length: nose to base of tail (standing).
- Height: floor to top of head or ears (whichever is taller) when standing.
- Add comfort margin: enough to stand, turn, and lie on their side. Breed labels (“large”) are marketing, not fit.
2. Measure the room
Crate furniture often sits where a sideboard would. Check door swing, hallway clearance, and whether the top will be used as a surface (lamp, books). A 47" exterior is a different object than a wire fold-flat crate.
3. Match interior, then exterior style
PDP dimensions usually list overall W×D×H. If interior is listed, use that for fit. If not, email the store with your dog’s measurements before ordering large kennels.
4. Divider / multi-dog notes
Some wooden kennels include dividers. Useful for growth or two small dogs — confirm the divider is included on the exact variant you buy.
5. Where to browse
